Dear Patient:
You may be aware of Pfizer's recent voluntary recall of birth control pills Lo/Ovral®-28 and Norgestrel/Ethinyl Estradiol due to the possibility of inexact tablet counts or out of sequence tablets. The product in question is manufactured by Pfizer Inc., commercialized by Akrimax Rx Products and labeled under the Akrimax Pharmaceuticals brand.
Please refer to the list of lot numbers and affected packets below to determine if your pill pack has been recalled. You can also view the FDA's report.
If you have an affected pack:
- Pfizer states the packaging defects do not pose immediate health risks; however, it could leave you without adequate contraception and at risk for unintended pregnancy.
- You should begin using a non-hormonal form of contraception immediately, i.e. condoms.
- You should continue taking the pills in the recalled pack until you are able to return it to your pharmacy for a replacement.
- When you receive the replacement, you should start at the same place in the new pack where you left off in the previous pack.
- You should continue using non-hormonal contraception (i.e., condoms) for a month after beginning the new pack.
