Should you choose to participate in clinical research at Virginia Women's Center, you will work closely with a clinical coordinator throughout the length of the study. Because of the electronic medical records sytem that we have at Virginia Women's Center, your normal provider will be aware of your participation in clinical research. 

Connie Garman, Clinical Research Manager

Connie is the clinical research manager and has been with Virginia Women's Center since 2001.

Connie comes from a farming background, having been raised on a dairy farm in Pennsylvania. For a short period of time, Connie and her husband continued on this tradition by having a dairy farm of their own. Connie now lives on a small farm with two donkeys, four cats and a dog. She and her husband have two grown children: a daughter who lives in Delaware and a son who lives in Pennsylvania. Two granddaughters, Ella and Brooklyn, are lights in her life.

In her spare time, Connie stays busy with church activities, where she plays the keyboard in the band. When she is not traveling north to visit her grandchildren, she also enjoys painting and sewing.

 

Jessica Kinsey, Clinical Research Coordinator

Jessica joined Virginia Women's Center as a clinical research coordinator in 2010. Prior to her employment with VWC, she worked as a clinical trials coordinator for VCU and VCUHS for three years.

In her spare time, Jessica enjoys sailing, cooking, gardening, landscaping and sewing. She is an avid sports fan and loves cheering on her hockey team, the Washington Capitals and her football team, the Washington Redskins.

Jessica and her husband, Darren, have two children named Carter and Katie. Her family also consists of two dogs, McKenzie and Reilly, and a pot-bellied pig named Bacon Bits.

 

Janet Baker, Clinical Research Coordinator

Janet is a Richmond native who joined Virginia Women's Center in 2010 as a clinical research coordinator. Janet attended Christopher Newport University where she earned a bachelor's degree in psychology with a concentration in research.

Janet's father is an Air Force General. Her country and in particular, the men and women who protect it, are very dear to her. She also has a deep appreciation for diverse cultures. She enjoys traveling and in past years has lived and worked in Honduras and Ethiopia.

Janet enjoys spending quality time with her younger siblings and her friends as well as taking trips to the beach, playing tennis, reading a good book and snow skiing in the winter. She also stays busy taking care of her labradoodle who is three years old.

 

Karen Wilson, Clinical Research Assistant

Karen joined Virginia Women’s Center in 2007 and is an integral part of the clinical research team as the clinical research assistant. Karen’s work ethic and positive attitude are examples of how we all should present ourselves not only in the professional environment, but also in our everyday lives.

Karen’s co-workers rave about her, saying that “she is the person that ‘keeps us straight;’ she epitomizes what a support system looks like for a successful team.”

Karen and her husband, Charles, have three children, the youngest of whom is a freshman at Virginia Tech. She enjoys spending time with her family, participating in church activities and collecting owls. Karen is also an avid reader and cat fancier.
