NovaSure® Endometrial Ablation
What is NovaSure® Endometrial Ablation?
The NovaSure
® Endometrial Ablation is a short procedure that can reduce or stop menstrual bleeding by permanently removing the endometrium, or the lining of the uterus. Your physician opens your cervix slightly and inserts a slender wand. From the wand, a triangular mesh device expands to fit the size and shape of your uterus and radio frequency energy is delivered through the mesh for approximately 90 seconds. The mesh device is then pulled back into the wand and both are removed from the uterus. Learn more about NovaSure
® Endometrial Ablation by visiting the official
Web site.
Who is a candidate for NovaSure® Endometrial Ablation?
- Women who are premenopausal and experience heavy periods due to benign causes
- Women who are finished childbearing
The Essure® Procedure
What is the Essure® procedure?
The Essure
® procedure is typically performed in less than 10 minutes. During the procedure, soft, flexible inserts are placed into the fallopian tubes so that the tips remain visible. This allows the physician to confirm that the placement is correct. The physician places the inserts through the vagina and cervix and does not use an incision. For three months following the procedure, an additional form of birth control will need to be used while the body works with the inserts to create a natural barrier within the fallopian tubes. At the end of the three months, an Essure
® confirmation test will be performed by inserting a dye into the uterus and using x-ray to ensure that the fallopian tubes are fully blocked and the inserts are positioned correctly. Learn more about the Essure
® procedure by visiting the official
Web site.
Who is a candidate for the Essure® procedure?
- Women who are finished childbearing
- Women who are concerned about the long-term use of hormones for birth control
- Women who are interested in permanent birth control without the risks of an invasive surgical procedure
- Women who do not want a permanent procedure that may limit options for future gynecologic procedures
Hysteroscopy D&C
What is a hysteroscopy D&C?
A dilation and curettage (D&C) is a procedure that is used to diagnose or treat many conditions that cause abnormal bleeding from the uterus. The procedure involves stretching the opening of the cervix and removing a sample of the endometrium so that it can be examined. In addition, a hysteroscopy is a slender, light-transmitting device that is used to view the inside of the uterus.
