Bruce R. Selman, M.D.

Virginia Women's Center is pleased to announce the arrival of Bruce R. Selman, M.D. to our St. Mary's Hospital location where he will be delivering babies in the hospital Labor & Delivery unit and seeing Virginia Women's Center patients with obstetrical or gynecologic problems who come to the hospital.

Dr. Selman received his bachelor's degree from Cornell University and then attended the University of Rochester where he earned both a Master of Science as well as a doctorate degree in biology. Prior to entering the field of medicine, Dr. Selman held the position of Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for several years.

In 1995, Dr. Selman received his medical degree at the University of Wisconsin and went on to complete his residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, WI. Before heading south, Dr. Selman served on the faculty of the department of Ob/Gyn at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee for three years. Dr. Selman is joining Virginia Women's Center from East Tennessee State University where he held the position of assistant professor in the department of Ob/Gyn.

Dr. Selman is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 2004, Dr. Selman was named a Solvay Scholar, an impressive and highly selective appointment from the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics, of which he is a member.

In his spare time, Dr. Selman enjoys motorcycle riding and spending quality time with his wife and two sons. In addition, he is an avid outdoors person and loves ballistics, reloading and target shooting. When the opportunity arises, he enjoys both eating and filling his freezer with game.
