Karen W. Jefferson, M.D.
Throughout every age and every stage, Dr. Jefferson encourages preventative care and health maintenance. She looks forward to managing the care of her patients across the full spectrum of women's health.
In particular, Dr. Jefferson has a special interest in working with her adolescent patients as she helps them discern the unique situations women experience as young adults. She enjoys educating these patients about abstinence, birth control options and irregular cycles. In addition, Dr. Jefferson has experience in helping women of all ages who are suffering from abnormal uterine bleeding or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). When surgical treatment is needed, Dr. Jefferson is skilled in laparoscopy. For her post-menopausal patients, she stresses the importance of preventative care and choosing healthy lifestyles.
Dr. Jefferson enjoys caring for women experiencing low-risk, healthy pregnancies as well as closely monitoring those who are considered high-risk. For patients with hypertension, diabetes or other high-risk health conditions, she collaborates closely with our maternal-fetal medicine specialists in their pregnancy care.
Dr. Jefferson is married to Rodney Jefferson and they have three children, a stepdaughter, Brittany, a son, Justin, and a daughter, Gabrielle. She stays active by participating in outdoor sports, playing tennis and biking. Dr. Jefferson enjoys spending time with her family, doing volunteer work with Richmond area youth, practicing photography, enjoying the arts, traveling and participating in her church.
