Wendy Dotson joined Virginia Women’s Center in 2016. Wendy’s midwifery journey dates back to 1984 when she first worked as a home birth midwife in Houston, Texas. Over the years, she has served a diverse group of women in homes, birth centers and hospital environments. Wendy’s friendly demeanor, gentle, sensitive and respectful approach instantly put her patients at ease during the amazing journey to parenthood. She believes that every woman has the right to a satisfying birth experience, and the right to be in charge of her own body and health.  And, that nature and the woman’s own body instinctively will guide labor and birth. Wendy is excited to bring holistic, family-centered midwifery care to Virginia Women’s Center. In addition to midwifery services, Wendy provides family planning and gynecological care.

Wendy earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from George Mason University in 1992 and a Master’s of Science in Nurse Midwifery from State University of New York – Stony Brook, in 1998.  Wendy founded and still sees clients at Loudoun Community Midwives, a successful midwifery practice in northern Virginia. Additionally, she spearheaded the development of and served as the midwifery director for the Natural Birth Center at Inova Loudoun Hospital. Wendy is a contributing writer for national midwifery publications and nursing texts. Her professional interests include teaching, natural remedies, and homeopathy.

Wendy’s passion for helping others extends beyond borders.  She regularly volunteers with the non-profit organization Midwives for Haiti and travels there to assist with births and train Haitian midwives. Wendy also devotes time to Heartline Ministries Maternity Center of Port Au Prince.

When she isn’t helping life unfold, Wendy and her husband share a great love of the outdoors and spend as much time as possible hiking and biking. Wendy has two adult sons who share their parent’s adventurous spirit.
